Running for Re-Election to the Shelby Township Board of Trustees means that I am proud of my record, and I am ready to keep Shelby Twp. as the best place to live, work, and play in Macomb County. At every board meeting I am fighting to re-earn your trust, support, and your vote. As campaign season ramps up, I want to take the time to highlight some of my prouder moments as your Shelby Township Trustee.
I have voted consistently to provide resources to our Police and Fire Departments, with heavy emphasis on keeping our officers and fire fighters as the best-trained first responders in Macomb County. I have supported funding training to teach our first responders how to solve complicated internet crimes and how to respond to violent crimes in progress. I have voted to fund water rescue training to ensure that responses to our many lakes and ponds in Shelby Township are safe for residents and our first responders. I have supported the purchase of new technology that our police department has used to solve crimes and catch bad guys.
My time on the Board of Trustees has allowed me to continue to put Shelby Families First! Shelby Township, in concert with the Shelby Township Downtown Development Authority, worked to create two new events - one in winter and one in summer - to ensure that Township families and members of the community had local activities in their backyard. Christmas A Glow is a wonderful event that brings the Spirit of Christmas to Township Hall and provides winter activities for the whole family. It features a reindeer petting zoo, a drone show, and a visit from Santa himself!
In our first year, Summerfest is just wrapping up this weekend, and features a patriotic welcome to summer! By leveraging the number one government program for kids in the nation, Treehouse Live performs a live show to an audience of hundreds of children of all ages. Summerfest also features a Touch-A-Truck event, a drone show, a patriotic symphony performance, and tons of free activities! This year was especially amazing because it included a visit from many of the animals at the Reptarium!
I have been heavily involved in building essential government infrastructure and services for the future. First, I supported building Shelby Township's first-ever water tower, which will save our community from runaway water bill increases for decades to come!
Finally, my work on the Solid Waste and Recycling Committee (SWARC) has probably impacted the lives of the most residents. It isn't glamorous, but effective and efficient trash-hauling is vital to keep our community clean and safe. I have worked hard to ensure that residents enjoy household hazardous waste drop-off events and electronic recycling days, so that we residents can ensure proper disposal of old technology and household hazards.
Most recently, I have been focused on getting answers on behalf of residents regarding the sale of our garbage contract from GFL to Priority Waste. I have met with the CEO, I have toured their facility, and I have reported my findings to the Board and the community. I will keep a laser-focus on tracking the transfer of our contract to Priority Waste and I will work to ensure that the high level of service that residents demand is maintained during this transition.
I am proud of the work I have accomplished in my four short years on the board. I am dedicated to continuing to provide efficient government, local activities, and a strong police and fire department residents rely on. The residents of Shelby Township deserve the best government services that we can get. After all, we are and will continue to be the best place to live, work, and play in Shelby Township.
Thank you for your continued support this August 6th!
