The Shelby TV series Women in History Month highlights the achievements of the women in our Township.
Shelby Township, Michigan, March 25, 2021 – In early March, I was asked to be part of a series produced by Shelby TV highlighting the women in our township for Women in History Month.
I was asked who my most influential female role model is now and was growing up. (link) My answer was not about influential political figures or actors, but instead the women in my immediate family. The unsung heroes in any family, I look up to those quiet professional women who know how to effortlessly juggle home life, family, and a career. My mom and my aunts were the most influential women in my life growing up, and continue to teach me life lessons every day. I think my story is similar to many women in our Township: we wear many hats throughout the day, as we try to manage each one of these roles with perfection.

On a normal day, we are all many things to many different people, and yet we all seem to figure out how to balance our lives in a way that works for our families. We can all agree that 2020 provided us with new challenges and we all rose to meet those new demands with distance learning, working from home, Zoom calls with friends, family and business associates, and a thousand other tasks that our personal spaces weren't designed for. Remember when we were washing our groceries and developed networks of friends to scout out disappearing toilet paper?!? What seemed crazy in the beginning of March, became second-nature by April, and our households hung together. While it seems like a dream now (or even a nightmare), handling the adversity head on has made us better. Better moms, spouses, children, and neighbors. We may have been quarantined from each other, but we shared this experience like any Community would.
I am truly humbled to be a part of this series. The women interviewed for the Shelby TV series are truly a reflection of the dynamic women in our community, and simply being asked to speak among them was an honor. Our Township is better because of the contributions of the Women in our Community, and I hope we continue to inspire the young women and girls in our community to achieve their personal and professional goals.
