"My commitment is to Shelby; I am dedicated to investing in our families and our future."
WHAT MAKES SHELBY TOWNSHIP UNIQUE
Having lived in Shelby Township for an extended period, I have grown fond of the tight-knit community, particularly now that I am a parent. It is crucial to me that Shelby Township prospers and flourishes as I am bringing up my family here. My dedication to the township predates my candidacy for the board of trustees in 2020, as I had already spent seven years serving as a Planning Commissioner. Furthermore, I operated my own law practice in Shelby Township from 2010 to 2020.
MY VISION FOR SHELBY: PROMISES MADE | PROMISES KEPT
My voting record consistently supports well-planned development that aligns with our master plan, adheres to our ordinances and department regulations, and upholds my commitment to preserving our community's unique character and charm.
I consistently vote in favor of empowering our township department heads and human resources director to refine our internal organizational structure, job responsibilities, and descriptions in order to enhance operational efficiency. These efforts have streamlined processes for accessing information, submitting applications, and utilizing other township services.
I consistently advocate for initiatives aimed at enhancing and maintaining our township parks, nature center, township grounds, and community center.
THE REASON I AM SEEKING RE-ELECTION AS YOUR SHELBY TOWNSHIP TRUSTEE
In my first four years on the board of trustees, I have been appointed as the liaison to the Shelby Township Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and the Shelby Township Solid Waste and Recyling Committee (SWARC).
The SWARC is highly engaged in our community through annual hazardous waste recycling programs and providing information at the Shelby Township Art Fair. The SWARC is dedicated to exploring various recycling options for all residents, with a focus on implementing township-wide recycling, including in apartments and condominiums. I am confident that SWARC will identify suitable solutions that benefit everyone. Working with such committed individuals has been a rewarding experience. I am excited to discover the new and engaging opportunities for involvement that SWARC can collaborate on with other township departments, sharing valuable insights on recycling and environmental conservation.
IMPORTANT SWARC DATES!!!!!!
August 10, 2024 – August 11, 2024 –ART FAIR
October 12, 2024 --ELECTRONIC RECYCLING EVENT
The DDA has placed a strong emphasis on engaging the community and attracting individuals to our downtown development area along Van Dyke and the municipal campus. Collaborating with the DDA, Parks and Recreation, Community Relations, and other departments, I have been involved in organizing the annual "Christmas A Glow" event in Shelby Township every December to mark the beginning of the Holiday Season. This event provides a fantastic opportunity for families to gather and celebrate the season and common values. In 2023, we introduced a new element to "Christmas A Glow" by featuring a drone show, which received overwhelmingly positive feedback. As a result, we have decided to include a drone show in our inaugural Summerfest taking place this June!
The DDA has been a long-standing supporter of our Fourth of July fireworks. A challenge faced by the township is the lack of sufficient space due to increased development for a safe and impressive fireworks display that our residents deserve. Building on the success of the drone show during Christmas, a new initiative has been introduced to merge our "Summer Kick Off" event with the traditional Fourth of July fireworks, resulting in the creation of "Summerfest." This extended two-day celebration will feature familiar attractions from the "Summer Kick Off," such as touch-a-truck activities for children, food trucks, Tree House Live (Shelby TV), a petting zoo, and more. Additionally, the Macomb Symphony Orchestra will perform on the second day, accompanied by a drone show and various other engaging activities.
The ability of the township departments and the DDA to quickly adapt and come up with a solution for our firework issue, while continuing to offer family-friendly activities that cater to a wide range of residents and neighboring communities, showcases their commitment to our community. I am honored to be the DDA board liaison and am excited about the upcoming innovative events scheduled for 2024 and beyond.
The Next 4 Years
Over the next four years, I aim to enhance our community programming and further highlight the upgrades to our campus and parks across the township. My goal is to nurture our sense of community and unite residents in enjoying our extensive recreational areas. With an impressive array of parks and activities, it's vital to promote and engage with them collectively.
We have made significant progress with our business investments and the diversity of job types within the community. My goal is to keep working on streamlining the process for new businesses to invest in Shelby Township. We offer outstanding commercial and industrial spaces that serve as ideal locations for both new and existing businesses seeking a new home.
With your continued support, I look forward to representing our township for another term.
